Recently someone asked me about migrating off Wix--something I think everyone should do because I disagree with their politics and aesthetics. Probably due to lots and lots of advertising, many people I know use Squarespace. My experience with Squarespace's layout designer has always frustrated me, and the company was acquired by a private equity firm in 2024 so I REALLY wouldn’t recommend using it... given the PE playbook is typically to raise costs and reduce value.
So here are the platforms I like and recommend if you're just a regular non-technical person.
Cargo, which is focused for artists and publishers. It has clear pricing and elegant templates.
mmm.page, the most fun website builder that is a complete blank canvas where you can drag-and-drop the site of your dreams.
WordPress, because you can do anything and everything...it is the most popular site builder on the whole internet.
