The other day my brain was trying to tell me that two songs which I knew were different songs, were the same song.

Listen to a performance of Shirley Bassey singing "This is My Life". Maybe check out a couple different performances...? I love all the different ways the MYYYYYYY is delivered.

It took me a few moments to realize...

"This is My Life" is not "I Am What I Am" from La Cage aux Folles.

Thankfully...Shirley Bassey has covered "I Am What I Am" and performed it exquisitely.

Perhaps my brain needed to organize their thematic similarities into the same file: offering the unfiltered self, longing for love, rejecting judgement and heartbreak. The lavish, orchestral-backed live performances of "This is My Life" complement the club-disco recordings.

This leads me to my whole point. Have you watched Dena Cass' performance to "This is My Life"?
